Overture Providing Search Results to Hewlett-Packard

Pay-for-performance search services provider Overture Services Inc. said yesterday it is providing search results to Hewlett-Packard Company's Pavilion notebook and desktop computer owners in the U.S.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Under the agreement, Overture's search results can be accessed from HP Pavilion desktop PCs by selecting either a keyboard button labeled "Search the Internet" or through a "Search the Web" box on the default Hewlett-Packard homepage offering Overture search results.

The deal gives Overture a leg up on search rival Google, both of whom have been fighting for position in the market. Unlike traditional search engines, Overture's allows advertisers to bid to get their listings placed in its results. The higher their bid, the higher up in the results list their link appears. Overture recently renewed a string of partnerships with companies such as Yahoo and Microsoft.
