Chase Eyes E-Commerce Payments With iCard

J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. has introduced the Chase iCard, a credit card featuring an award program that offers online gift certificates from Ecount.

Chase iCard customers earn a 1 percent reward on each purchase using the card. When $10 in rewards is reached, Ecount sends the cardholder an e-mail notifying them that a Web certificate is waiting for them. The online certificate acts like a reloadable, prepaid debit card that can be used anywhere MasterCard is accepted, Chase said.

Ecount, Conshohocken, PA, develops stored-value cards and electronic payment services for financial services institutions.

"The messages that we're hearing loud and clear from our customers are around providing an incentive for credit card purchases and making it easier and more rewarding and secure to shop online with a Chase credit card," said Patricia Tiffany, vice president of e-business marketing at Chase.

Chase said its iCard also features a free Chase Companion e-wallet to store account numbers and addresses in a single location; online account access; the Chase Online Shopping Guarantee, which does not hold cardholders liable for the unauthorized use of their card; and special monthly discounts from select merchants.

The Chase iCard has no annual fee and an introductory annual percentage rate of 2.99 percent for six months on purchases and balance transfers.
