Online job search site Dice rolls sixes with Message Systems e-mail

Technology job search site Dice tapped Message Systems to centralize and implement its e-mail communications with job seekers and employers.

Previously, Dice's e-mail management system communicated with 15 different servers, making the monitoring, management and operational recovery difficult. In addition, the former e-mail platform did not use a deliverability tracking or bounce processing mechanism.

"Before if you register to receive e-mails from Dice and you didn't receive it, Dice would never know," said Barry Abel, vice president of field operations for Message Systems, Columbia, MD. "They were all being tracked individually. Because of this Dice was ending up on abuse reports and having problems with the ISPs. Now it is all going through one system, so they are able to track communications and are not upsetting the ISPs."

Dice, Urbandale, IA, specializes career sites and career fairs for technology and engineering, accounting and finance, capital markets and security-cleared professionals, sends more than a million e-mails at a time to qualified candidates by proactively sending job alerts, often across multiple e-mail channels.

Dice recently acquired a British job search site, making jobs in Britain available on the Dice site. The firm is implementing the Messages Systems platform into this channel of the site to further centralize its communications systems.

According to Mr. Abel, prior to using Message Systems, 10 percent of Dice's e-mail did not reach its intended audience. Since instituting Message Systems' platform, job alert bounce rates have dropped to between one and two percent, and Dice is now consistently delivering more than 95 percent of its messages.

The new system has allowed the site to implement new features to its e-mail service.

"They're implementing new programs like real time e-mail and updates, whereas before e-mails may take a day to be sent out," Mr. Abel said.
