Online Grocer Expands into Electronics

Online grocer Webvan yesterday said it plans to begin offering consumers same-day delivery of electronics, including video games, videos and DVDs.


Webvan, Foster City, CA, has operations in Sacramento, San Francisco, Atlanta and Chicago.The company plans to deliver orders over $50 for free.


The company's move combines two of the latest trends in e-commerce: diversification and same-day delivery.Over the past several months, Amazon.com has branched into drugstore sales and home appliances. Barnesandnoble.com recently announced it would offer same-day delivery in Manhattan to compete with Kozmo.com and Urbanfetch.com.
