Oklahoma Governor Signs DNC List Bill

Gov. Frank Keating of Oklahoma signed a proposed do-not-call list bill into law on Monday, making it the 22nd state to pass such legislation.

The bill is scheduled to take effect July 1, and the state expects to publish the first DNC list by Jan. 1. Only charities and political calls are exempted.

Violators of the list will be subject to penalties under the Oklahoma Consumer Protection Act. The state attorney general as well as private citizens will be allowed to take legal action against telemarketers that violate the list.

Another state DNC list bill is awaiting final passage in Minnesota, which would become the 23rd state to create DNC list legislation. Pennsylvania became the 21st state to enact a DNC list law earlier this month.
