Tar Art Media will being publishing Tar magazine this October. Publishing biannually as of 2009, Tar will showcase arts and aesthetics in a high-glossy format. The magazine, printed on recycled and "eco" paper, also promises a focus on sustainability.
With the confluence of postal increases, consumers' green advocacy and soaring paper costs, it wouldn't be unreasonable to think that insert media is one of the print-rooted areas that are currently under attack.
McClatchy Co. has partnered with Hispanic news and information company ImpreMedia for a content sharing deal. The agreement allows both companies' newspapers and Web sites to post articles from each others' writers. Seven of ImpreMedia's locally focused papers are included in the deal, as are three of McClatchy's Spanish-language publications.
Dow Jones and Co. will start distributing the US edition of its Wall Street Journal in London on April 16. WSJ Europe will maintain its presence in London. Issues of the US WSJ will be available five days a week in London., distributed mainly via newsstand.
Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts has redesigned and relaunched its branded in-house magazine. The new Four Seasons Magazine, published by Pace Communications, was released April 1 in guest rooms and common areas at all Four Seasons hotel and spa properties. It will be published quarterly.
A number of Newsweek staffers have accepted an employee buy-out offer and are leaving the magazine. Reports place the number of exiting employees at 111, but spokespeople at Newsweek and parent Washington Post Co. would not confirm the number.
From all the ups and downs affecting the publishing world last week — partnerships, cutbacks, redesigns and circ boosts — one common factor emerged: Publishers are trying to entice readers with more of what sets their brands apart.
