The New York Times Company has entered into a printing and distribution agreement with Philadelphia Newspapers LLC. Under the agreement, Philadelphia Newspapers will print daily editions of The Times and distribute the paper to home subscribers in Philadelphia and the surrounding area.
Hearst Magazines is redesigning O at Home and increasing the title's rate base. With its spring issue coming out on March 4, the quarterly has moved its rate base from 625,000 to 650,000. It's also changing its look and adding some editorial sections to more resemble parent title O, The Oprah Magazine.
Dennis Publishing, the UK-based company behind The Week and a number of other magazines, has launched a custom publishing group, Dennis Communications. The venture, an attempt to create new revenue sources for Dennis, will produce print and digital magazines.
In an effort to heighten brand awareness of its online and print magazine titles, Hearst Magazines Digital Media will participate in Yahoo Buzz. Yahoo Buzz allows readers to vote on the popularity of online stories. Yahoo then posts the winners on its homepage. Hearst has signed on 10 of its titles, including Esquire, Cosmopolitan and Redbook, as Buzz content partners.
Glen Giles, 47, a prominent figure in b-to-b publishing, was found dead last Tuesday morning. Police say Giles was stabbed at his home. A suspect, unnamed at press time, is in custody. Giles, described as a "passionate and committed to the industry" and "very kind and good at what he did" by friends and colleagues, was the director of new business development for fulfillment company Hallmark Data Systems.
Chicago Tribune Publishing Group has expanded its Triblocal community portal and will begin reverse-publishing two new print editions of Triblocal in March. The 13 new online portals bring the total number of Triblocal sites to 21, each focusing on an individual neighborhood in the Chicago suburbs.
