Industry execs welcome UPS insert marketing program

UPS stuck its toe into the direct marketing industry on September 28, beginning a test of its insert marketing service in five US metropolitan areas. Industry executives reacted to the program by saying that they do not feel threatened by the move, but are hopeful that UPS's brand cachet creates opportunities for them.
 

Multichannel retailer Gander Mountain to transition to private ownership

Multichannel outdoor apparel and gear merchant Gander Mountain announced September 28 that it plans to become a private company in order to improve its performance. Despite a recent push into multichannel retailing, Gander Mountain is struggling. For its fiscal second quarter ending August 1, the company reported a consolidated net loss of $7.3 million, more than the $4.9 million reported during the same period last year.
 

Sprint, NFL partner for integrated campaign

Sprint and the National Football League are promoting the carrier's Any Mobile, Anytime plan with an integrated marketing effort that includes TV, print, online and out-of-home ads, as well as special mobile features. The ad creative shows people in NFL team jerseys using their phones from little bubbles, which represent small in-circle calling networks. The hero of the ad breaks out of her bubble to call anyone.
 

Omnicom Media Group and DDS extend data relationship

Omnicom Media Group has renewed a multiyear contract with Donovan Data Systems, the two organizations announced September 28. DDS will provide the advertising, marketing and communications holding company with management systems and services as part of the deal, for which financial terms were not disclosed.
