USPS mail volume drops in Q1 of FY2008: MTAC

According to preliminary financial results, the US Postal Service's mail volume is down by 3% for the first quarter of fiscal year 2008. The decrease is "very, very troubling," said Glen Walker, chief financial officer and EVP for the USPS, at the Mailers' Technical Advisory Committee Meeting on January 30.
 

Eddie Bauer cuts corporate staff by 16%

Eddie Bauer Holdings Inc. has cut 16% of its corporate staff in a reorganization that has eliminated 123 positions across the company's offices in Seattle, Chicago and Columbus. The company acknowledged in a recent earnings call that overall costs were too high and that it would be taking action in early 2008 to become more cost-competitive.
 

Alliance responds to notice of soured merger

Alliance Data Systems Corp. has filed a lawsuit against the Blackstone Group in response to a notice from the group that a planned merger between the two may not go through. The suit, filed in the Delaware Court of Chancery, seeks specific performance to have Blackstone comply with obligations stated in the merger agreement.
 

Dell to close shopping mall kiosks

Dell is closing its 140 retail kiosks inside US shopping malls as the company continues to embrace a strategy of placing its products inside well-known retail outlets such as Best Buy and Wal-Mart.
 

AOTA calls businesses to adopt e-mail authentication tools

The adoption of e-mail and domain authentication has reached its tipping point, exceeding 50% in several key metrics, according to the Authentication and Online Trust Alliance. The AOTA researched Fortune 500 companies and Internet retailers to see which are using Sender ID and DomainKeys Identified Mail, the leading standards of authentication.
