President Bush and House of Representatives leaders have reached an agreement on an economic stimulus package, which will put more money into the hands of consumers. "We're very pleased with what's happened so far and we really applaud the bi-partisan efforts by Democratic house speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Republican leader John Boehner, to endorse a stimulus package that would put money into consumers' pockets," said Rachelle Bernstein, VP and tax counsel at the National Retail Federation.

E-commerce services firm GSI Commerce Inc. has signed a definitive agreement to acquire e-mail marketing services firm e-Dialog Inc. in a $157 million deal. The acquisition expands GSI's interactive marketing services and international reach.

For the year ended Dec. 31, eBay Inc. reported net revenue totaled $7.672 billion, an increase of 29% compared to the previous year. Net income for the year totaled $348 million, or 25 cents per diluted share, which includes a goodwill impairment charge of $1.39 billion recorded in the third quarter of 2007. Net income was $1.126 billion in 2006, or 79 cents per diluted share.

ShopRite grocery stores have teamed up with MediaCart Holdings Inc. and Microsoft to deploy "smart," ad-serving shopping carts. "ShopRite has always been one of the players to look at technology and be an early adopter, so when this came along we were asked to partner to test it and to see if it had any merit," said Karen Meleta, spokesperson for ShopRite.
