USPS cuts employee hours in response to mail volume loss

Due to initiatives to reduce work hours and overtime, compensation expenses for the US Postal Service dropped by $247 million — or about 2.5% — in the third quarter compared to the same period last year, according to a financial report that the USPS has filed with the Postal Regulatory Commission.

Macy's Inc. has signed an agreement with consumer insight firm DunnhumbyUSA to analyze Macy's customer sales data, develop customer segmentation models and work with Macy's to apply the learnings to accelerate future sales growth.

Technology companies increased their paid search marketing spend with Yahoo in the second quarter of 2008, according to a recent report by Covario. "Since the beginning of 2007, Yahoo had been consistently losing market share to Google," said Craig Macdonald, VP of marketing and product management at Covario.

EEC creates Speakers Bureau for e-mail outreach

The Email Experience Council (EEC), the e-mail marketing arm of the Direct Marketing Association, has created a new outreach program called the EEC Speakers Bureau. The Speakers Bureau, which is run by EEC members, will make itself available to speak at events that have little or no programming about e-mail marketing, in a move to educate the industry more about the channel.
