Cablevision, which recently completed its acquisition of Newsday from Tribune Co., is selling subscriptions to the daily paper on a special interactive television channel.

Newsday TV — channel 611 for Cablevision's iO TV digital cable subscribers on Long Island — offers an on-screen Newsday order form to viewers. The form, which pops up when viewers click “Subscribe” with their remotes, is pre-filled with customers' names and addresses. Those who use the service can sign up to receive daily or weekend editions of the paper.

Cablevision will promote the new channel throughout Long Island with television commercials and on-screen banners, as well as other media.

Cablevision execs hinted at cross-promotion when the deal to purchase Newsday was brokered in May of this year. At that time, James Dolan, president and CEO of Cablevision, said in a statement, “Adding Newsday Media Group's superb assets to Cablevision's portfolio presents a multitude of opportunities: to provide consumers with additional quality content on multiple platforms; expand advertising opportunities for both entities; and attract a larger audience than either company could on its own.”

Promotional information on the paper and its sections — including “Explore LI” features, classified ads, local news and area coupons — will also run on Newsday TV. Videos of recent Newsday stories and information on the Newsday Insider program — which offers  exclusive deals and discounts at area restaurants and retailers and free access to Newsday's e-Edition and archives, among other benefits — will round out Newsday TV's programming.

Newsday's total average paid circulation is 441,728 on Sundays and 379,613 on weekdays, according to the paper's March 31, 2008 Audit Bureau of Circulations statement.
