PLI, RAB Create Privacy PSAs
The advertising campaign is a component of public relations and Internet efforts by the Privacy Leadership Initiative, a privacy research and education partnership of CEOs from 15 corporations, including Acxiom, DoubleClick and Experian; and nine business associations, including the Direct Marketing Association and the Interactive Advertising Bureau.
As part of the agreement, the Radio Advertising Bureau is promoting the ads to its more than 5,000 members. It is unclear how many or which radio stations will pick up the PSAs.
Three advertisements were created to address identity theft and online privacy. The ads offer consumers tips about choosing passwords so they are protected against hackers, not sharing Social Security numbers and using caution in Internet chat rooms.
The public service announcements direct people to visit the PLI Web site at www.understandingprivacy.org for more information. The radio ads can also be downloaded at the PLI Web site.
In addition to the radio campaign, the PLI and the Interactive Advertising Bureau began a banner ad campaign on privacy on Oct. 2, 2001, which will continue for a year.
Both the radio ads placement and the banner ad space is being provided free of charge by the radio stations and Web sites.
