News Service Tracks Online Press

Clip Genius has launched its Web-based news clipping service that tracks 150 online publications and sends daily e-mail updates when articles mention a business, select competitors or an industry topic of interest.

The hosted service includes the country's top 100 newspapers by circulation, the largest daily in extremely rural states, television news sites such as ABCNews.com and business news sites such as Forbes.com.

The e-mails can be received in the morning and afternoon. They can be received with graphics in an HTML version or text where users will see the name of each publication, a headline and the opening paragraph to the story before clicking through.

The service costs $39 a month and is targeted at marketers, public relations firms and ad agencies.

"We feel the pricing is attractive along with the flexibility we offer on both ends," said Mike Thompson, chief executive officer at Clip Genius, Alexandria, VA. "You can go in and change your search criteria whenever needed."

By comparison, Luce Online Inc., Scottsdale, AZ, offers a similar service that tracks 4,000 news sites and their message boards for $320 per month. Businesses can track up to three competitors with the service.
