News Byte: Salesforce Forms Unit to Focus on Verticals
Salesforce EVP Vivek Kundra
Salesforce.com yesterday unveiled a new strategy to grow its multichannel marketing business by tailoring offerings to six industry groupings: financial services and insurance; healthcare and life sciences; retail and consumer products; communications and media; public sector; and automotive. The new unit will be led by EVP Vivek Kundra, who joined Salesforce two years ago after serving as CIO of the White House and CTO of the District of Columbia.
In a statement, the company professed that the strategy behind the alignment was to form teams of industry-specific experts and preferred partners that could better tailor solutions in the Salesforce1 platform to each sector.
“Entire industries are seeing the power of social, mobile, and connected cloud technologies upend decades-long business models. This is no small disruption; it's a complete re-imagination of industries,” said Kundra.
Salesforce1—a platform for businesses moving to the company's new social, mobile, and connected cloud—aims to enable the development of next-generation mobile apps for sales, service, and marketing, according to the company.
