News Byte: ReachLocal Debuts "Liger" Hybrid App Development Tool
The Liger, a hybrid between a male lion and female tiger

Online marketing solutions provider for small- and medium-sized businesses ReachLocal recently released the development framework behind its lead generation app ReachEdge to the public, under the name LigerMobile.

Similar to standard application programming interfaces (API), the LigerMobile framework enables businesses to quickly develop mobile apps. The cornerstone of the framework is its ability to allow developers to create apps that are native to both Android and iOS.

“We're not in the biz of building API factory. We found this framework so productive that we decided to open source the tool chain itself so others can use it to build mobile apps,” says Josh Tuberville, ReachLocal's principal architect. “We're really hoping to build a community around Liger. We want to find out how it's going to be useful to other people.”

ReachLocal will discuss LigerMobile, its development, and potential uses in the SXSW workshop “Speaking of Mobile, Go JS, Go Native, or Both” on Tuesday, March 11.
