Mobile gains steam for Facebook.

Facebook CFO David Ebersman said during the company's 3Q earnings call yesterday that the social network had experienced a drop in daily usage among young teens. But he added, “We remain close to fully penetrated among teens in the U.S."

That's a good thing, because Facebook saw a notable increase in mobile advertising activity for the quarter, and teens have a higher propensity than older folks to access social networks and watch videos on their cell phones than older folks.

The company reported that mobile ads accounted for 49% of its advertising revenue, up from 41% in the second quarter, and noted that ad prices were strong. Facebook's monthly active users on mobile hit 874 million as of September 30, 2013, an increase of 45% from last year.

Facebook's total 3Q revenue was $2.02 billion, an increase of 60% over the $1.26 billion it posted in last year's quarter. Total advertising revenue increased 66% to $1.8 billion.
