Hudson's Bay Company (HBC), the parent company of the Saks, Lord & Taylor, Hudson's Bay, and Home Outfitters brands, announced today the launch of its HBC Digital division and appointment of Michael Burgess as president. “I think this is an innovative approach that HBC is using to really leverage our digital talent to build the enterprise,” Burgess says. “I'm excited to take it to the next level.”

As president of HBC Digital, Burgess will be responsible for digital commerce and marketing strategy execution across the entire HBC enterprise. HBC Digital was spawned from a need to address customers' high expectations for outstanding in-store and online experiences. “We have the opportunity to improve the omnichannel shopping experience,” Burgess says. “We'll be able to leverage best practices and take our great talent and apply their knowledge and skills across all of the retail banners under HBC.”

Burgess previously worked as president of Sak's Direct, the online division of Saks Inc., where he developed the company's omnichannel strategies.

“Customers are expecting to see a great experience both in-store and online,” Burgess explains. The creation of the digital division is a key strategy for HBC to address this challenge, he says.
