News Byte: Facebook Edging Forward With Video Ads

Facebook is reportedly looking to incorporate video ads, with company founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg taking a heavy role in the execution of this initiative. In a story originally reported by The Wall Street Journal, Zuckerberg is particularly concerned about the possibility of irritating Facebook's members.
At an estimated cost to advertisers of $2 million per day, however, the ads still need to catch the interest of Facebook users in order to be worth the investment. The Journal reports that the ads are expected to run 15 seconds or less, will initially play without sound (unless the user activates them), and will be available on both desktop and mobile interfaces.
Video has increasingly been a medium of interest for marketers. At the same time, it has its own unique set of best practices to ensure engagement (and to minimize annoyance). The revelation of Facebook's possible video ads comes just a few days after the company announced the hiring of its first-ever CMO.
