The See It button: Twitter's new TV link
Come November, an Xfinity TV customer reading a tweet about a hockey game will be able to click a button and immediately join the game in progress. That's one of the implications of an agreement announced today by Comcast and Twitter that they would partner on a new feature called See It. This comes on the heels of an announcement that Nielsen would be providing ratings of TV shows mentioned and read about on Twitter.
The See It button will allow Xfinity users to not only tune into shows live on their set-top boxes, but also to call them up online or on mobile devices. Menu options provide for setting DVRs and reminders, as well. The websites of Comcast and its NBC Universal arm proclaim that See It makes Twitter “The New Remote.”
“You're seeing tweets from shows like The Voice prompting tune-in or maybe a trending topic about something that happened on The Blacklist,” says Sam Schwartz, Comcast Cable's chief business development officer. "See It will be integrated into a show's tweet, so that with the click of a button, I can change the channel on my TV right away, record it, or even watch on my mobile device.”
Only live programming from NBC Universal will be available via See It links. Besides The Voice and Blacklist, that includes sports programming such as NHL Hockey, The Golf Channel, and Sunday Night Football.
