News America Marketing Forms E-Business Unit

News America Marketing, a New York-based subsidiary of News Corp., yesterday formed its SmartSource iGroup e-commerce division.


SmartSource iGroup consists of News America Marketing's recently acquired companies and investments, including planetU, Softcard and SmartSource Direct, formerly known as CCMI. The new division will also manage the recently launched SmartSource.com Internet business.


Softcard provides a frequent shopper program using smartcard technology. SmartSource Direct's products focus on retail promotions, including loyalty card issuance, database management, e-gift programs and e-cards. The SmartSource.com Web portal provides consumer savings programs over the Internet using planetU technology.
