New FedEx Rates Take Effect Jan. 5

Rates will increase an average of 2.5 percent for FedEx Express and 1.9 percent for FedEx Ground effective Jan. 5, FedEx said yesterday.


The carrier also said that it will end the fuel surcharge for U.S. and international FedEx Ground shipments as of Jan. 5, but continue the fuel surcharge for FedEx Express. Other changes include:


· A delivery area surcharge of $1 per package for FedEx Ground shipments to commercial locations in select ZIP codes.


· An increase in the surcharge for residential delivery from $1.40 to $1.75 per package for FedEx Express and FedEx Ground shipments. An additional existing surcharge for express and ground shipments to residences in select ZIP codes will remain at $1.75 per package.


· An increase in the surcharge for residential delivery of FedEx Home shipments from $1.15 to $1.40 per package.


· FedEx Express Freight service will be offered with Saturday delivery to select U.S. destinations for an additional $100 per shipment.
