New Deadline Tonight for Canada Postal Strike

A new deadline of midnight tonight has been set as the Canadian Union of Postal Workers and Canada Post Corp. agreed late last night to postpone any strike.

"We are getting close to a deal," Canada Post spokesman John Caine told The Canadian Press. "These things take time, and we need just a little more time."

Both sides agreed to extend the strike twice over the weekend as negotiations continued to go favorably, first to midnight last night and again to tonight.

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers represents 48,000 members in rural and urban communities, including full-time, part-time and temporary workers.
