New Coastcards may pollinate bars with ad messages

Out-of-home media provider Mediacy Inc. has introduced Coastcards. These hybrids of beverage coasters and postcards allow customers to write notes and mail them using regular postage. Mediacy also is exploring prepaid postage rates. It's also considering an electronic version of Coastcards that can be sent through mobile devices by scanning a Sparqcode where the stamp goes.

A restaurant I frequent features advertising postcards in a dispenser by the door. I've only seen a few people even take them, let along mail them. Coasters distributed among tables at a bar allow for greater penetration of marketing messages — and giving tipsy people the chance to jot and mail something quickly can't hurt for spreading that message.
