Nevada Health Care Company Reaches Out to Uninsured Through eHealthInsurance

Health Plan of Nevada is looking to reach out to the relatively high percentage of uninsured Nevadans through a distribution alliance with eHealthInsurance.com, an online health insurance shopping and price comparison service.

There are roughly 424,000 uninsured residents, or 21 percent of the state population, according to eHealthInsurance.com. An estimated 15.5 percent of people nationwide did not have insurance in 1999, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

EHealthInsurance.com serves its customers through a phone-based customer service center, e-mail or online chat services.

The 3-year-old company provides Nevada individuals, families and small businesses with information on health insurance plans provided by Unicare, Anthem BlueCross BlueShield and Celtic.

EHealthInsurance serves states representing roughly 95 percent of the U.S. population, the company said. It expects to cover the entire country by the end of the year.
