Nautilus Treads Into New Territory: Catalogs
"People have heard of Nautilus but they don't realize the range of products available through the company," Ron Arp, spokesman for the Vancouver, WA, firm, said of the decision to create a catalog.
Nautilus tested the concept a year ago. Based on that test, the company mailed a 52-page catalog to names in its database last week. The catalog also is available by request on a companion Web site, nautiluscatalog.com, or by calling a toll-free number.
The book features more than 160 products divided into four in-home physical-training needs: strength, cardiovascular, stretching/toning and recovery. Each of the company's brands -- Nautilus, Bowflex, Stairmaster and Schwinn Fitness -- is included.
Making its debut in the catalog is a line of Nautilus equipment for fitness enthusiasts who want health-club-quality equipment for their home.
Related items are available, including exercise benches, apparel, Champion Nutrition products and massage chairs.
Prices range from $6.99 for a jump rope to $6,999 for a Nautilus home gym.
The company sees the catalog as a tool for building incremental sales with existing customers who may have a treadmill but don't have free weights, for example.
Half of the direct marketing sales volume is expected to come through the Web site. Orders also can be placed using a toll-free number, by fax or by mail.
Nautilus plans to mail a second catalog later this year.
