National Bank of Australia Wins NCDM Gold

NEW ORLEANS -- The National Bank of Australia received the gold NCDM Database Excellence Award yesterday at the winter conference.

The retail financial-services company, which serves 4.5 million customers in Australia, won the award for its database marketing program, which has been in operation since 1997. The program tracks customers' potential interest in services. It also tracks events, such as an upcoming loan renewal, then alerts bankers to the best times to offer services to the customers.

In the 12 months prior to September 2001, the program generated 1.5 million sales leads. Other winners of NCDM Database Excellence Awards include:

• a silver award to insurance provider State Farm, for its program of using discounts to cross-sell insurance products to its auto-insurance customers.

• a bronze award to discount brokerage Charles Schwab and CRM agency Quris, for their data-mining program that associates online and offline activities by customers.
