Visa launches Rightcliq e-commerce application

Visa launched a web application known as “Rightcliq” August 2 to make the online shopping experience easier for consumers.

The application allows users to create a wish list — called a “Wishspace” — to organize and share images of products they're considering buying, browse merchant offers, solicit advice from friends and auto-fill payment information using a digital wallet.

“When we developed Rightcliq, we wanted to look at the whole online shopping chain,” said Visa spokesman Paul Wilke.

After the application is downloaded, consumers can access it from any website using a tool that appears on his or her web browser. When consumers visit e-commerce sites, Rightcliq instantly notifies them of offers.

The application works with all credit and debit cards, not just Visa.

“We wanted to create a series of tools that reflects the way people shop, and that's what people want. People have more than one card in their wallet,” Wilke said.

Visa is promoting Rightcliq through e-mail marketing, digital advertising and social media. Ad buys will appear on websites such as Daily Candy, Federated Media, Gawker Media, Pitchfork, Yahoo Shine and WhoWhatWear.com. Gawker Media is also conducting a “Wish Big” contest, in which readers can win their dream Wishspace.

Visa acquired e-commerce payment processor CyberSource for $2 billion in cash in April to increase the use of Visa debit, prepaid and credit cards for online purchase sand to accelerate the e-commerce industry's growth at large.
