IBM and Terra Lycos yesterday signed a multimillion-dollar strategic global relationship.

Under the two-year agreement, Terra Lycos will use IBM servers, enterprise software and services for its worldwide e-business infrastructure. The deal is expected to allow Terra Lycos to handle additional customers while reducing operating costs.

Terra Lycos serves approximately 100 million unique Web visitors per month.

IBM systems are meant to serve as the foundation of Terra Lycos' global information technology infrastructure, uniting the company's Web serving, enterprise resource planning and customer relationship management systems.

The firms also agreed to explore marketing collaboration opportunities that leverage the strengths of both companies. In a separate agreement, IBM intends to advertise on the Terra Lycos network of sites.
