Staples to open e-commerce innovation center
Staples will open an e-commerce innovation center in Massachusetts in May that will house teams “responsible for designing and implementing innovative new e-commerce solutions” for Staples' business customers, the company said in a Jan. 26 statement.
Staples will add information technology, product management, usability and creative positions as it “continues to invest in the multichannel customer experience across mobile services, desktops and stores,” the company said. It was unclear how many new positions will be created. Staples did not immediately return requests for comment.
Ronald Sargent, Staples' chairman and CEO, said in the company's last earnings call, on Nov. 15, that the new website, which includes an expanded print offering, electronic software distribution and proactive chat, was "gaining traction.” However, the accompanying earnings statement did not include e-commerce details or metrics.
“Staples' new E-Commerce Innovation Center will become home to some of the world's best e-commerce talent with the goal of rapidly bringing breakthrough new ideas to market in emerging online technologies like mobile commerce and social media,” said Brian Tilzer, Staples' VP of e-commerce and business development, in a statement.
Staples recently launched a new smartphone app and mobile-optimized website.
