SkyMall Internet, Overall Sales Increase

SkyMall Inc., Phoenix, this month said its first quarter net merchandise sales rose 59 percent to $15.6 million from $9.8 million a year ago.


Net merchandise sales from the specialty cataloger's Web site, skymall.com, were $4.3 million, or 34 percent of business-to-consumer net merchandise sales in the first quarter, which ended March 31. During the same period last year, that number was $825,000, or 9 percent of BTC net merchandise sales.


Gross margin for the quarter was $7.3 million, or 36 percent, compared to a gross margin of $6.7 million, or 47 percent, a year earlier.


The company also announced late last month it will provide corporate employees with savings on its products under an agreement with Employeesavings.com.
