R.R. Donnelley Logistics Opens Mega-Distribution Center in PA

R.R. Donnelley Logistics opened a 670,000-square-foot distribution center in York, PA. The facility will process all of the company's customer package volumes originating from and headed to the northeastern United States.


Donnelley said it expects that customers will see their home delivery service improve by up to two days within the region and by one day for the rest of the country. Donnelley sorts products for other companies, then ships them to various locations nationwide, using the U.S. Postal Service for final delivery.


"The demand originating from and destined to the Northeast continues to grow, and our capabilities need to grow ahead of demand," R.R. Donnelley Logistics president John Campanelli said in a statement.


Donnelley said packages will be able to move through the facility in as little as 10 minutes from inbound to outbound truck by using the latest scanning technology and a high-speed automated sorting system. The new facility will increase its processing capacity by 40 million packages a year, the company said.


The facility also will house: Merchandise Management Services division, an inventory order management and distribution service for companies requiring national distribution of high-volume, single-item SKUs; Lightweight Express, its express shipping program for time-sensitive packages of less than 1 pound; and SmartLabel, the merchandise returns service provided by Newgistics, of which R.R. Donnelley Logistics is an equity partner.
