NY Wine Restriction Stayed By Judge

A U.S. District Court Judge issued an injunction yesterday prohibiting New York state from enforcing its current prohibition on interstate direct wine shipments to consumers within the state. "From a market access perspective, this is the biggest victory in the Coalition for Free Trade's five year campaign to level the playing field for all US. wineries," said Tracy Genesen, legal director of the Coalition for Free Trade, in a statement "It paves the way for a solution that will allow New Yorkers to order from out-of-state wineries, and for New York wineries to ship to consumers in states that allow such shipments." The Coalition for Free Trade provided legal strategy for the case. New York is likely to appeal the ruling, but the stay will be in effect for the 30-day appeal window.
