The Mark Group, a direct marketer of women's apparel, plans to change its corporate name to Boston Proper.

In a statement last week, the company said it will focus on its "highly successful" Boston Proper brand, following a year that included the sale of Mark, Fore & Strike retail stores and the divestiture of the Charles Keath line.

"In addition to accelerating the growth of the Boston Proper catalog and our Boston Proper Internet channel, we believe that there is a big opportunity to develop a Boston Proper retail store concept," chief executive Michael Tiernan said in the statement.

Boston Proper describes its customers as "affluent, active females between 25 and 55 years of age and are typically busy professionals living in urban and suburban communities."

This year 31 million Boston Proper catalogs will be distributed via 27 mailings in the United States. Bostonproper.com offers more than 2,200 items. Internet sales account for about 31 percent of the brand's sales.
