Limited Unloads Lane Bryant on Charming Shoppes

Specialty clothing retailer The Limited Inc. is selling its Lane Bryant chain of women's apparel stores for $335 million in cash and stock to Charming Shoppes Inc.


The sale includes $280 million in cash and $55 million in stock, which will give The Limited Inc. a stake of about 8 percent in Charming Shoppes. Lane Bryant operates 653 stores in 46 states. The retailer designs and markets fashion apparel, intimate apparel and accessories to women wearing size 14 and larger.


The sale also includes the Lane Bryant Web site. Charming Shoppes, Bensalem, PA, operates retail stores that include Fashion Bug and Fashion Bug Plus.
