Gap to Use Oracle E-Business Suite

Gap Inc., a specialty retailer of apparel, has agreed to use Oracle Corp.'s Oracle E-Business Suite to boost business operations through the Internet.

Oracle's software is meant to help the San Francisco-based retailer trim costs and improve operational efficiencies at the Banana Republic, Gap and Old Navy divisions.

The Gap Inc. win comes in the midst of an aggressive advertising campaign conducted by Oracle, Redwood Shores, CA. Ads running across many publications, including a long-running back-cover position in The Economist, say, "Oracle Software Powers the Internet."

Oracle tools licensed by Gap Inc. include Oracle Financials and Purchasing, Oracle iProcurement and Oracle Product Development Exchange.

Using this suite, Gap Inc. hopes to simplify operations and lower costs associated with key business functions without taking on the expenses of customization.

For instance, processes such as expenses and indirect purchasing will be conducted on the Internet using Oracle's self-service model, allowing information to be shared automatically across all of the software suite's modules.

This way, Gap Inc. hopes to rid itself of manual data entry and sidestep errors in the transfer of information.
