Former Esquire Editor Joins Lands' End

Lands' End, Dodgeville, WI, has named Lee Eisenberg, a former Esquire magazine editor, as its new executive vice president and creative director.


Eisenberg, who assumed his new responsibilities this week, is taking full charge of the company's catalog design and production operations as well all public relations and advertising initiatives.


In January, Lands' End was forced to close three retail outlets after payroll costs began outpacing sales growth. The company also liquidated its Willis & Geiger outdoor catalog line and reduced its overall workforce by about 10 percent. According to sources, moving Eisenberg into a strategic position at Lands' End is part of the company's restructuring effort.


According to Lands' End, net sales for the year ended Jan. 29 totaled $1.37 billion, compared with $1.26 billion for the prior year, an increase of 8.5 percent. The increase in sales was primarily due to additional catalogs and pages mailed to customers.


Eisenberg was most recently an editor in charge of creative development with TIME magazine where he helped launched TIME for Kids as well as many of the magazine's online activities. He will continue to help guide a two-year TIME-CBS News collaboration known as the TIME 100, which will chronicle this century's most influential people.


In 1970, Eisenberg began his career with Esquire, where he presided over the launch of the Esquire Press book division as well as numerous magazine awards.
