More Holiday Shopping Left for Consumers

The average consumer still needs to complete more than 30 percent of his or her shopping with only a week to go before Christmas, according to a new survey by Bigresearch for the National Retail Federation.


According to the findings, the average consumer has completed 68.5 percent of his shopping, up from 52 percent Dec. 10. Men have completed 63.6 percent, and women 73 percent.


Young adults are the laggards. The average consumer ages 18-34 has completed only 62.1 percent of his shopping. Adults 35-54 have completed 68.2 percent, and those 55 or older have finished 75.8 percent.
