Moore Corp. Buys Print Firm The Nielsen Co.

Print technology firm Moore Corp. has agreed to buy The Nielsen Co., a commercial printer operating in the U.S. Midwest and South, for an undisclosed sum, the companies said yesterday.

Toronto-based Moore said it expected the acquisition to be completed over the next few weeks. The purchase will strengthen Moore's position in the $70 billion commercial printing market in North America, said Robert Burton, Moore's president/CEO.

Nielsen employs 730 people and has facilities in Florence, KY; Raleigh-Durham, NC; and Cincinnati. The company made $90 million in revenue in 2001.

Based in Stamford, CT, Nielsen produces catalogs, pharmaceutical inserts, marketing and promotional material and annual reports and brochures. The company mainly serves the consumer products, pharmaceutical and financial services industries.
