Samsung Mobile USA's chief product officer Kevin Packingham has left the organization, The New York Times reported today. Packingham, who worked at Samsung for two years, helped introduce many of Samsung's Galaxy products, The Times stated.

“Kevin Packingham has departed Samsung Mobile,” a Samsung spokesperson confirmed. “We thank Kevin for his contributions and wish him well in his future endeavors.”

The spokesperson did not disclose why Packingham left Samsung or who will replace him.

Samsung originally hired Packingham back in September 2011 to serve as SVP of product innovation. He reported directly to former president Dale Sohn—who was replaced by Gregory Lee in July 2013 and now serves as executive advisor to J.K. Shin, co-CEO and president of Samsung's IT and mobile communications. While serving as SVP, Packingham oversaw Samsung's carrier product management, product planning, and concept creation departments, according to the 2011 press release. Packingham brought 14 years of telecom experience to the brand. Before joining Samsung he served as CEO for telecommunications technology company Amerilink Telecom Corporation. He also worked at Sprint Nextel for 11 years, working his way up to SVP of product and technology, where he focused on product management.

Packingham's departure comes at a low point for Samsung. On September 4 Reuters reported that Samsung's shares plummeted 13% over the previous three months and that the company will be holding a strategic conference in Seoul on November 6 to discuss long-term growth strategy.
