Microsoft Debuts Third Edition of Windows Live Local

Microsoft released its third edition of Windows Live Local, the company's online local search and mapping service.

The new version lets users find maps, directions and local search information.

New functions include real-time traffic reporting, additional ways to collect and share results, integration with Microsoft Office Outlook and Windows Live Messenger, and geographic expansion to Canada and Britain.

Microsoft also released its Virtual Earth map control. Windows Live is built on the Virtual Earth platform and includes map control capability.

Microsoft's MSN service has 465 million users worldwide each month with localized versions available in 42 global markets and 21 languages.
