Micron Electronics Agrees to Acquire Internet Service Provider

Micron Electronics Inc., Nampa, ID, agreed to acquire Micron Internet Services from Micron's parent company, Micron Technology Inc. The terms call for Micron Electronics to pay book value for MIS, which offers Internet access and e-commerce services to small and medium-sized businesses, organizations and consumers.

The transaction is subject to a definitive agreement.

The move follows Micron Electronics' agreement to acquire HostPro, an Internet content and applications hosting company based in Los Angeles. It also comes as other computer direct marketers are adding Internet service to their roster of offerings. Gateway is boosting its promotion of Gateway.net, its Internet service division, and Dell is preparing to launch its Internet-access service in the United States after launches in Europe earlier this year.
