Metromail Reports Losses for 4Q, Year

Metromail Corp., Lombard, IL, announced Feb. 10 sales increases for the fourth quarter and the year but net losses of $5.3 million for the quarter and $8.5 million for 1997 because of one-time, nonrecurring expenses.


Sales totaled $328.4 million for the year, a 16.7 percent increase over 1996, and $97.2 million for the fourth quarter, an 8.6 percent rise from the same period a year ago. Sales in direct marketing services -- which make up 56 percent of 1997 consolidated sales -- grew 24.2 percent for the year, U.S. information services were up 37 percent and mail production services up 20 percent. Sales in database marketing services grew just 1.3 percent while list enhancement services were lower for the year.
