MetroGroup to close bulk mail facility

Direct marketing solutions provider MetroGroup Marketing Services will close its bulk mailing facility in Rutland, VT, in December, according to published reports.

The 60-year-old company produces and mails nearly 2 billion pieces annually from its facilities in Nebraska, Iowa, and Vermont. It services include direct mail production, printing, statement processing, packaging and fulfillment solutions.

MetroGroup is reportedly closing the 175,000-square-foot plant, which employs 204 workers, and consolidating its operations into its Nebraska and Iowa plants as a result of changes in the industry, such as the latest postal increase, that have affected how its customers are doing business.

Several telephone calls to Metro Group, Lincoln, NE, for comment were not immediately returned.

Last October, MetroGroup acquired Glendale, Heights, IL-based Proficient Data, a transaction document services provider as a way to capitalize on the growing use of transactional documents for upselling and cross-selling opportunities.
