Metris to Market Mortgages, Loans

Credit card issuer and fee-based service provider Metris Companies, St. Louis Park, MN, has entered into an alliance with Countrywide Credit Industries, Calabasas, CA, to market mortgage and home equity loan products to the moderate-income customer base of Metris and Fingerhut.

Metris will handle all marketing, which will include statement stuffers, direct mail and telesales targeted to its 4-million name database and the 30-million name database of former parent Fingerhut, Minnetonka, MN. Metris will examine behavioral, spending and home ownership data to determine the most likely candidates for mortgage offers.

Spokesman Al Galgano said the determination of credit worthiness of a candidate will be left to Countrywide. Metris and Fingerhut customers who wish to pursue a mortgage or loan will be directed to a Countrywide office.
