Merrill Lynch, HSBC Form Online Venture

Merrill Lynch, New York, and HSBC Holdings, London, yesterday said they will form an online financial services venture to serve customers outside of the United States.


The venture -- modeled on Merrill Lynch's Direct Service, which is targeted to affluent investors -- will offer online banking and brokerage services and attempt to attract retail customers.
