Melissa Data, Tele Atlas Provide Geocoding Solutions

Data quality services provider Melissa Data announced a licensing deal yesterday with Tele Atlas North America, Menlo Park, CA, a digital mapping software provider.

The agreement lets Melissa Data, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, incorporate Tele Atlas' U.S. Postal Points data into Melissa's MAILERS+4 GeoCoder, GeoData and GeoCoder Object.

The GeoCoder product line will return the latitude and longitude coordinates from a ZIP code or ZIP+4 code. This data can be used to identify client clusters, territories and nearest dealers. GeoCoder also provides county Federal Information Processing Standards codes, which ensure uniform identification of geographic entities through all federal government agencies, and new census tract and block numbers. Both can be linked to 2000 census data.

In addition to incorporating the more accurate geo-spatial data files from Tele Atlas, the GeoCoder products now will be updated twice yearly with new postal and positioning data.
