Mailers Software, a division of Melissa Data Corp., said yesterday that it has acquired Smarter Software from Sagent Technology.

Both companies offer similar postal automation services and products designed to help volume mailers nationwide save money on postage and printing, enhance database accuracy and functionality and increase target market effectiveness.

Existing Smarter Software customers that use the company's AddressPro postal software will be transitioned to Mailers Software's Mailers +4 Professional, which offers increased options that can be customized to fit their needs.

The move will increase the company's customer base "and further develop technology advancements to the benefit of current and future customers, " said Raymond Melissa, president of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA-based Melissa Data Corp.
