Meijer taps QuantiSense for database, consulting work

Meijer, a retailer with stores in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky, has enlisted QuantiSense for business intelligence (BI), data warehousing and consulting work.

The retailer has long been using a MicroStrategy BI platform, which runs on a Teradata database, and the new QuantiSense tools are built on the existing MicroStrategy architecture. QuantiSense adds embedded retail intelligence, role-based dashboard and “Playbooks” of standardized business processes to Meijer's existing data tools.

“QuantiSense provides Meijer with a strategic platform for transforming the way we disseminate, report and act on information, and it will enable us to link the IT team's operational objectives with the business team's strategic and tactical decision making," John Agnew, director of merchandising services for Meijer, said in a statement. 
"We are very pleased that we can get QuantiSense up and running so quickly, and integrating Playbooks into our daily business processes promises to bring a significant competitive advantage for Meijer." 

QuantiSense will first be deployed to Meijer's merchandising staff. Meijer executives expect this implementation to be completed within 100 days and plan to roll out QuantiSense to supply chain services, executive management reporting and consumer insight groups in the near future. The merchandising staff will use QuantiSense's role-based dashboards to explore performance data.

Meijer also is using QuantiSense's Developing Your Playbook technology and management consulting service. “Developing Your Playbook” is designed to help clients determine which analytics are most important to the business.

“Our work with QuantiSense is an integral part of an overall initiative at Meijer to transform how we manage our merchandising operations, from planning and buying to forecasting and replenishment," said Dennis Mullahy, group VP of merchandise planning and supply chain management for Meijer, in a statement.  "…[O]ur objective is to refine what our end users see, enable them to improve their business decision-making and ultimately expand these concepts and processes to other relevant areas of our operation."
