The Financial Times has signed an agreement with Amazon that will allow readers to access the UK-based paper on their Kindles, Amazon's digital reading device.

The agreement serves the Financial Times Group's stated goal of exploring new ways to distribute content to customers. Currently, the newspaper is printed in 24 cities, with a daily circulation of more than 450,000. FT.com boasts 101,000 subscribers and 6.2 million unique users a month.

“We are delighted to have signed this deal with Amazon to provide our content through Kindle,” Greg Zorthian, global circulation director for the Financial Times, said in a statement. “We see the digital distribution of the newspaper as a vital part of our strategy and it's crucial that we offer customers the flexibility to access our award winning journalism through as many channels as possible.”

Each electronic issue of the Financial Times will cost 75 cents, or readers can subscriber for $9.99 a month. The pricing is far below the standard cost of the print edition, which demands a year-long commitment and runs for $298 a year — close to $25 a month.

Daily editions of the Financial Times will be delivered to consumers wirelessly over Amazon's Whispernet service. The Financial Times' Web site specifies that only the US edition of the global daily will be available; Kindles are not yet sold in the UK.
